AdSense integrated into Google's Custom Search
Google has announced that it has improved some of the features it offers for custom search engines.
The company said that the Google-powered search box that website owners can install on their site to allow users to easily navigate around, known as Custom Search, would now power AdSense for Search.
According to Google, Custom Search Engine (CSE) allows website owners and online marketers to customise options in searchers to deliver improved accuracy and tailor user results.
The firm added: "With the integration of Custom Search into AdSense for search, you can take advantage of CSE's most popular features without having to leave your AdSense account."
One of the new features means that publishers can now fine-tune search results and ads with keywords. This means that online markets can set up searches that make use of keywords to deliver the most relevant results and adverts back to the user.
Writing on his blog, Matt Cutts explained that the new system was "not a backdoor way to get more pages in Google's index or to improve your search ranking".
He added: "If you use AdSense for search, the product is now better and more tweakable. And if you provide a sitemap, your custom search can get much better as those URLs are incorporated into a CSE-specific index."
