Could Technorati's blog adverts revive its fortunes?

Search engine service Technorati is reportedly planning to launch a blog advertising network.

Under its new chief executive Richard Jalichandra, Technorati is apparently shifting its focus towards bloggers, following in the wake of successful advertising networks Glam and FM Publishing.

Michael Arrington, writing for techcrunch.com, says: "The network will be a self-serve exchange for bloggers (and other publishers) as well as advertisers. Ad units will include both display and text ads, and will allow units to be charged on both a CPM and CPC basis."

He adds that "a blog rollup" had also been considered by Technorati, "but our understanding is that they've gone with the ad network idea".

Jordan McCollum, writing for Marketing Pilgrim, expressed her support for the venture - saying it would make Technorati tags useful - but queried whether the new initiative would be enough to revive the popularity of the company.

"Technorati seems to have been diminishing in popularity for some time now," she adds.ADNFCR-1536-ID-18496120-ADNFCR
