Cutts gets probed on SEO
Matt Cutts, head of Google's Webspam and search engine optimisation (SEO) specialist, has answered some challenging questions regarding the subject matter in a recent interview.
The acclaimed blogger, dubbed an "internet god" by The Wired Blog Network journalist Betsy Schiffman, answered to several probing questions posed by the website.
Responding to Ms Schiffman's question, "Does SEO work?", Cutts replied: "It does to some degree.
"Think of it this way: When you put a resume forward, you want it to be as clean as possible. If the resume is sloppy, you're not going to get interviewed for the job. SEO is sort of like tweaking your resume. It's helpful if you just think about which words people would use to search for your content. If you're writing something about Mount Everest, for example, people are probably going to look for 'How high is Mount Everest?'. If done responsibly, [SEO] can be a great thing."
Writing on his Google blog, Cutts revealed that he recently attended the Search Marketing Expo (SMX) West conference in California, adding that one of his favourite evens was the SMX Search Bowl, "where search engines and SEOs matched wits on search trivia".
