Facebook lets users carry their profiles to other sites

Popular social networking site Facebook has revealed that it is rolling out a new system which lets its users carry their Facebook identity onto other sites.

Writing on the social network's Developers Blog, Dave Morin said that Facebook Connect was "the next iteration of Facebook Platform".

He explained that the new system "allows users to 'connect' their Facebook identity, friends and privacy to any site".

"This will now enable third party websites to implement and offer even more features of Facebook Platform off of Facebook - similar to features available to third party applications today on Facebook," Mr Morin added.

However, writing on marketingpilgrim.com, Janet Meiners said the move raised questions about who could access information put onto the internet by users of social networking sites.

"Privacy is a big concern as it always is with social networks. Free means you give up personal information so you can be on the site. If you change your mind, getting the information off could be tricky. Also, each site has its own privacy policies," she explained.

"Of course die hard social network fans accept that they've given up quite a bit of privacy just by being online. We just want certain rights protected and to know that we have control over how and where the information is shared."

Recently, Facebook also revealed that it had raised the funds to drastically expand its network of servers. It said the growth was necessary to continue to offer services as its membership increased.ADNFCR-1536-ID-18588258-ADNFCR
