Global teenage online activity revealed in new survey

Bebo and YouTube rank top with British teenagers, according to a new survey of 58,486 young people from around the world.

Teenage virtual world Habbo quizzed teens between the ages of 11 and 18 from 31 countries regarding their online activity and brand purchasing choices.

While networking site Bebo and video sharing site YouTube scored top within the UK, MySpace came top globally.

Furthermore, 50 per cent of the teen respondents said that they forwarded humorous links and videos to their friends, while 30 per cent regularly uploaded content.

According to Emmi Kuusikko, director of user and market insight for Habbo's parent company Sulake, this confirmed "the notion that teenagers have an active online presence".

Almost 76 per cent of respondents said that they used the internet to instant message friends, while email was found to be generally reserved for more non-personal formal tasks involving school or work, or corresponding with family members. ADNFCR-1536-ID-18536610-ADNFCR
