Google 'concerned' for internet if Microsoft Yahoo takeover goes ahead
Google's chief executive Eric Schmidt has said the search engine is "concerned" about a potential Microsoft takeover of Yahoo.
Schmidt told news agency Reuters today (March 17th) that it was worried that Microsoft could do things that "would be bad for the internet", adding that if such an acquisition occurred then Google hoped that anything Microsoft and Yahoo did "would be consistent with the openness of the internet, but I doubt it would be".
Also commenting on a possible US economic slowdown, Schmidt said that advertisers tended to shift to a "highly measured" form of advertising, which the leading search engine was well positioned to manage.
"The kind of advertising we do is more measurable," he said, adding that the company's international operations also protected them from an economic downturn.
He said: "Even if there is a US recession, and especially if the US dollar gets weaker, we tend to benefit from currency effects," reports Dow Jones.
