Google sees dip in Feb search market share

Google's share of the global web search market dropped last month from January.

Citing figures from comScore, an analyst said yesterday (March 19) that the search engine had seen its dominance of the worldwide web search market dip to 62.8 per cent in February, from 63.1 per cent the month before.

The data showed that Google's search volume dropped from 6.14 billion in January to 5.86 billion in February.

However, a spokesman for the market research company said that the dip was partly due to February being two days shorter than January.

Youssef Squali, an analyst for Jefferies & Co, said: "We are continuing to see deceleration in growth in web search. Google's month-over-month five per cent decline is a little surprising, but all of the major web search names were down."

comScore are expected to release data on growth in 'paid clicks', or the number of web search ads viewed, in February later this week or early next week.ADNFCR-1536-ID-18518433-ADNFCR
