New taskforce to address privacy online
A new taskforce is set to be created by the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB), in an effort to address the issue of privacy on the internet and targeted online advertising.
The forum hopes to attract the input of publishers, ad networks and sales houses and will be led by the IAB's head of regulatory affairs Nick Stringer. It will come into force in autumn this year, reports mad.co.uk.
Guy Phillipson, the IAB's chief executive, commented on the creation of the new taskforce, citing recent EU interest in the subject as a prompt for the group's establishment.
"The European Parliament's focus on IP targeting and privacy has been a major reason, as well as new products that have launched in the market," he said.
"It makes sense to agree common standards in the UK to reassure the market that we operate to best practice."
Telecoms provider BT admitted last week that it had trialled an online advertising system technology, provided by targeted advertising company Phorm, on thousands of user accounts last year without the knowledge of its customers.
