Sandberg leaves Google for top Facebook role
Search engine giant Google is losing its vice president of global online sales and operations to social media site Facebook.
It was announced yesterday (March 4th) by Facebook that Sheryl Sandberg will join the team as chief operating officer as of March 24th.
Sandberg will be reporting directly to the site's chief executive, Mark Zuckerberg, and is set to manage Facebook's sales, marketing, business development, human resources, public policy, privacy and communications.
Commenting on the new appointment, Zuckerberg said: "Sheryl is a great manager who will help scale Facebook's operations globally. She has relevant experience and a track record of scaling business operations and building new kinds of advertising networks."
Sandberg added that she had "learned so much during my time at Google".
In her role at Google, Sandberg built and managed the search engine's online sales channels. Previous to this appointment she had been chief of staff at the treasury department under the Clinton administration.
She is married to former Yahoo music head David Goldberg.
