Search marketing to top $25.2 billion in 2011

The search marketing industry will continue to grow, according to new predictions made in an online marketing report.

Figures from the 2007 State of the Market survey by the Search Engine Marketing Professional Organization (SEMPO) showed that growth in the industry in North America exceeded expectations last year, increasing from $9.4 billion (£4.7 billion) in 2006 to $12.2 billion (£6 billion) in 2007.

The new projections expect the sector to grow to $25.2 billion (£12.5 billion) in 2011, up from the $18.6 billion (£9.2 billion) forecast last year.

The report also found that search marketing spending is increasing at the expense of print magazine advertising, website development and other marketing forms.

"The spending statistics show search engine marketing continues to prove its worth in the larger marketing arena," said Jeffrey Pruitt, president of SEMPO.

"However, in light of the concerns about the overall economy, it's important to note some of this spending is the result of shifting marketing dollars from other offline and online marketing endeavours."ADNFCR-1536-ID-18512643-ADNFCR
