Yahoo agree to landmark Google AdSense trial
Search engine Yahoo revealed last night (April 9th) that it has agreed a deal with bitter rival Google to test the company's AdSense system on its website.
The company revealed that it would be conducting a testing period, which it is thought will last around two weeks, and will see advertising sold through the AdSense service placed alongside search queries made by Yahoo.com users.
Despite only three per cent of search enquiries will be involved, the announcement has prompted concern from Microsoft, currently in the midst of a takeover bid with Yahoo, over the possibility of the two search engine's market share of online advertising.
Brad Smith, Microsoft's general counsel, said: "Any definitive agreement between Yahoo and Google would consolidate over 90 per cent of the search advertising market in Google's hands.
"This would make the market far less competitive, in sharp contrast to our own proposal to acquire Yahoo. We will assess closely all of our options."
