Yahoo announce more detail for search results
Search engine Yahoo is planning on allowing third parties to add extra details, such as ratings and reviews, to their search results.
The new platform, called Search Monkey, will see a set of application programming interfaces (API) that allow for the additional data, which can also include images and deep links.
Vish Makhijani, senior vice president and general manager of Yahoo Search, told Computerworld.com: "Our intent is clear - present users with richer, more useful search results so that they can complete their tasks more efficiently and get from 'to-do' to 'done'.
"So instead of a simple title, abstract and URL, for the first time, users will see rich results that incorporate the massive amount of data buried in websites. We believe that combining a free, open platform with structured, semantic content from across the web is a clear win for all parties involved - site owners, Yahoo and, most importantly, our users."
A recent study by ComScore showed that there was a one per cent decrease US search-ad clicks for Yahoo in January, while clicks increased by four per cent for Microsoft over the same period.
