Yahoo launches Shine for women
Yahoo today (March 31st) launched a new website for women, in what will be a boost to its advertising contracts.
Shine, which is aimed at women aged between 25 and 54, will cover topics including fashion and beauty, entertainment, parenting and work by collecting content from female magazines and bloggers.
The search engine has already created popular sites such as Yahoo Finance, Sports and News, and this latest venture has been launched with a female demographic in mind.
"Shine is going to be a magnet for women looking to come to one place to get the best information built for women," Shine's editor in chief, Brandon Holley, told the Los Angeles Times.
According to web measurement firm ComScore Media Metrix, other competing sites for women include Glam Media, iVillage.com from NBC Universal, AOL Living and Everyday Health.
Debra Aho Williamson, an EMarketer senior analyst, added that Yahoo will be able to utilise the power of its existing brand.
"They have a better chance of drawing an audience compared with a brand-new company trying to stake a claim," she said.
